The first intelligent charging stations controlled by software that connects all stations commenced its operation in Norway. The new technology allows the driver and charging station owner to benefit from the remote monitoring of the charging stations. In addition, in California a corridor of charging stations is planned to connect L.A. and San Francisco.

After having connected already the EV community in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the Czech, the system designer Coulomb Technology wants to bring its technology to the Scandinavian countries but this time with an improved technology. It provides many useful information to the electric vehicle driver as well as the charging station owner. Together with its European partner 365 Energy Group, the company is installing network-controlled ChargePoint stations that allows the EV driver to find nearby charging stations via a google map. In addition, the charging station owner can use an online portal that is connected to the network informing about the real-time operational status, the amount of consumed electricity or generating usage reports.

"The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and now Norway - I am very optimistic that the ChargePoint charging stations will soon be available in all European countries. We want to help put more electric vehicles on the roads with a well-developed, user-friendly infrastructure," said Hong Thieu, CFO of the 365 Energy Group.

A corridor of charging stations for California

In the meantime, two other companies are joining forces to supply California with a corridor of solar-powered charging systems. SolarCity and local California bank Rabobank are planning to install several charging stations to connect the EV community from Los Angeles with San Francisco and the other way around. Moreover, electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors is involved in this project, as SolarCity already installed over 100 recharging stations at the homes of Tesla car owners.

“We hope that this corridor of charging stations provides new travel opportunities for electric vehicle owners and gives further momentum to the renewable energy movement,” says Marco Krapels of Rabobank.
