While the world discusses possible solutions for climate change in Copenhagen, Sanyo showcased an all-electric solar truck at the Eco Products 2009 International Exhibition in Tokyo, 10-12 December 2009.

Sanyo’s solar electric truck is an all-electric vehicle featuring the company’s own HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin Layer) solar panels and lithium-ion batteries that enable the truck to travel 130km on a single charge. The onboard batteries are recharged in 16 hours of sun exposure or in just 8 hours using an AC (alternating current) 100 volt wall outlet. The solar energy that is generated via the panels and stored in the lithium-ion batteries  is not only used to run the car but can also supply external power.

Technical Details

The truck is equipped with nine 210W solar panels that have a capacity of 1.89KW and an estimated total energy supply of around 2000KWh. Solar energy is stored in 3510 cylindrical lithium-ion batteries (195 series x18 units) with 117~160 V output and 25.9kWh capacity and weighing around 250 kg.
