More electric highlights

As the first-ever plug-in hybrid from Hyundai, the Blue-Will PHEV is scheduled to make its North American debut at the Detroit Auto Show. The four-seat sedan concept features panoramic glass roof with solar cells for recharging batteries as well as a thermal generator that converts hot exhaust gases into electricity.

Even though Chrysler made clear before that it will not go into serial production with an electric car before 2011, it will probably unveil an electric concept version of the Fiat 500 subcompact in Detroit.

Also the concept Volvo C30 Electric that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year will be at display as well as the BMW Concept ActiveE. The EV based on the BMW 1 Series Coupe is planned as a four-seat sedan with a lithium-ion battery and a 160km range.

More much awaited models: the Nissan Electric LEAF that goes into production this year, Think’s compact electric City, that is already in production and a Toyota Dedicated Hybrid concept as well EV models from Renault.
