Talison Lithium forecast an even steeper growth in demand with a future transport high case scenario of 500,000 tonnes LCE demand by 2020 up from the 130,000 tonnes estimated consumption in 2011 by Signum Box. Future growth is seen in a jump in demand from grid storage.
GreenFleet and Charge your Car have joined forces to hold the interactive event on Wednesday, March 7 at Gateshead College Skills Academy for Sustainable Manufacturing and Innovation.

<![CDATA[We know where our Democratic President stands of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and alternative energy thanks to President Obama’s State of the Union Address. But where do the remaining Republican challengers stand on such issues? We here at Gas2 decided to find out.

The current state of America is not great. The housing market has not returned, unemployment is high, and the price of good just keeps going up. To top things off 2012 also happens to be a Presidential election year – so that means not a lot of is actually going to get done on the real issues and instead all eyes are going to be on the race.

Currently there are four Republican candidates squaring off against one another for a chance to take on President Obama. The candidates are former Massachusetts Governor Willard Mitt Romney, former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Texas Senator Dr. Ron Paul, and former Republican Senator from Pennsylvania Rick Santorum.

Different people from different background and all with different ideas on many issues; but for the sake of our interests here at Gas2 let’s look at where each candidate stands on alternative fuel use and the growing EV market.]]>

<![CDATA[SINGAPORE: A new wave of plug-in electric vehicles hitting the market is giving the auto sales industry a boost.

This comes amid US' auto sales figures, which grew at the fastest pace in January in almost four years -- a sign that demand is returning to the sector.

Deliveries of the all-electric Nissan Leaf totalled 676 in January, marking 10,369 US sales for the world's best-selling electric car since its December 2010 launch.

And while sales and production of electric cars are providing the industry with a boost, big oil players say electric cars are unlikely to outnumber their gasoline cousins by 2030.

According to BP's Energy Outlook for 2030, energy used for transport will continue to be dominated by oil, but oil usage will decline, as other sources grow more rapidly.

Growth is expected to slow over the next 20 years to average 1.1 per cent annually, in comparison to 1.8 per cent during 1990-2010, with OECD demand slowing and then declining post-2015.]]>

<![CDATA[The U.S. government's effort to create an electric-vehicle battery industry suffered a setback last week when one of the companies it funded as part of this effort saw its parent company file for bankruptcy protection. Battery maker Enerdel had been awarded a $118.5 million grant to build a lithium-ion battery factory in Indiana as part of a $2 billion grant program for electric-vehicle component and battery manufacturing; its parent company is Ener1.

Ener1 hopes to emerge from bankruptcy, and says Enerdel will continue operations during bankruptcy proceedings. Yet its difficulties point to the challenges of creating a new industry: at least for now, there are too many companies chasing too few contracts for making electric- and hybrid-vehicle batteries.
